my problem with this whole idea of misandry being a thing is like
i don’t want to
say it’s a thing
because
the concept of generalized hate toward those who id as male is a thing that exists, yes — in the abstract way that all concepts generally exist and can occasionally be implemented and documented but are not necessarily the rule as opposed to the exception
but
the systemic oppression of men is
not a thing that exists
and when people throw around the word “misandry” like they throw around the words “reverse racism” it makes me…really uneasy and not very keen on acknowledging the idea that misandry is a real thing
because it does NOT mean the same thing as “reverse sexism” (which is basically the definition that a lot of people apply to it, and isn’t even a thing to begin with), and i am NOT OKAY with giving it the power to be thatbecause that’s just
putting men’s voices first
again

You don’t want to give a voice to those who suffer, and your grounds for erasing their experiences are that you’re ‘not very keen on acknowledging them’. Serious case of female privilege right here.
Guess what? It’s not up to you. Nobody cares whether you like the sound of reverse-sexism, or misandry. You have absolutely no right to silence men just because their sticking up for themselves ‘makes you uneasy’.
‘But I don’t want to’ is not an excuse for sorting your outdated ideas of oppression out, especially as they are hurting real people. Seriously, you are not the expert on men’s issues, and you cannot speak over men simply because you don’t enjoy listening to them. Human rights movements do not exist to make you happy. They exist to sort out the sort of inequality which you happily partake in. Please wake up.

These things aren’t mutually exclusive, they interact and work together as part of the same patriarchy. Male privilege does not disprove female privilege, it supports it.
“But where it affects men, it’s just a side effect of misogyny”
That’s twisted logic, because if you saw the evidence as it is now you would accept both sides equally - you only believe misogyny is more important because you were first taught with only half of the evidence. Research into the development of human society, comparisons with other animals, and even the concept of a gender binary support equal and opposite suppression of both sides. We are all crammed into a gender role, and it sucks for all of us.
“Men just don’t want to be feminine because being feminine is seen as bad”
By that logic women not being allowed to do typically masculine things, such as vote or work (both part of a male gender role which brings with it its own societal expectations and pressures and restrictions), was only because being masculine was seen as bad. You can appreciate how this over-simplification of oppression is ridiculous.
“Men might feel hurt by sexism, but really sexism only victimises women because the stereotypes degrade women only”
If it’s hurting men, men are being victimised - but plenty of sexist stereotypes directly target men as well.
“Sexism helps men far more than it hurts them”
This would not be grounds for ignoring that it hurts them, or not giving sympathy to male sufferers. But that’s irrelevant, because this is simply not true. Even conventions such as androcentrism and chivalry victimise men every bit as much as they do women.

Oh my god a ‘female privilege’ checklist. Oh my god. hahahaha if you seriously believe that a woman having a right to make decisions about her own body is a privilege then I’m not going to waste my breath on you. I could only read a few of the bullet points before I was enraged. “Oh my god women get free dinner on dates!!!!!111!!!! how unfair!” You know, because the average pay gap between men and women is only in the thousands of dollars. That’s totally fair right? Men make thousands of more dollars a year but women don’t have to pay on dates.
